Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups Rice (approx. 320g)
  • 150g Beef sirloin (cut into small pieces)
  • 1/2 Bell pepper (seeds removed and finely chopped)
  • 3 cloves Garlic (thinly sliced)

Seasoning & Broth

  • 2 Tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 0.7 Tbsp Oyster sauce (approx. 10ml)
  • 300ml Chicken broth (or chicken stock)
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Pinch of Black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 2 cups of rice. Rinse it thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear, then soak it for 30 minutes. Soaking the rice beforehand will result in a much softer and fluffier pilaf.

Step 1

Step 2

Drain the soaked rice in a sieve, ensuring as much water as possible is removed. Excess water can make the pilaf mushy, so thorough draining is key.

Step 2

Step 3

In a wide pan, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium-low heat. Once the butter has melted, add the drained rice and begin to stir-fry.

Step 3

Step 4

While stir-frying the rice, gradually add the warm chicken broth (or chicken stock) in three portions of about 100ml each. Stir-fry until the rice grains absorb the broth and become fluffy. This gradual absorption is crucial for the pilaf’s texture.

Step 4

Step 5

Continue to stir frequently over medium-low heat, ensuring the rice cooks through and absorbs all the broth without sticking to the bottom of the pan. The rice grains should become translucent and tender. Once cooked, set the rice aside temporarily.

Step 5

Step 6

Now, let’s prepare the main ingredients. Pat the 150g of beef sirloin dry with paper towels to remove any excess blood. Season it lightly with salt and pepper. Thinly slice 3 cloves of garlic and finely chop 1/2 bell pepper (after removing the seeds).

Step 6

Step 7

Heat another pan over medium heat and add a little cooking oil. Sauté the sliced garlic until fragrant. Once the garlic aroma is released, add the chopped bell pepper and seasoned beef. Stir-fry over high heat quickly. Avoid overcooking the beef, as it can become tough; cook just until the surface is no longer pink.

Step 7

Step 8

Once the ingredients are evenly stir-fried, add the rice prepared in step 5 to the pan. Stir everything together to combine well and continue to cook for another 1-2 minutes.

Step 8

Step 9

The secret to flavor! Add 0.7 tablespoons of oyster sauce to season the pilaf. Its umami will enhance the overall richness. Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt or pepper according to your preference. Your pilaf is now ready!

Step 9

Step 10

Your delicious Beef Pilaf, made with care, is complete! Enjoy this wonderful one-bowl meal, highlighting the distinct texture of each rice grain and the rich flavor of the broth. 🙂
