Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s make a Flattened Dumpling and Lettuce Bibim Naengmyeon using Nongshim Dungji Naengmyeon! I’ll guide you through this recipe for one serving.

Step 1

Step 2

First, prepare the ingredients for our special bibim naengmyeon: 3 dumpling wrappers for the flattened dumplings, 1 egg, and 2 fresh lettuce leaves.

Step 2

Step 3

Crack the egg into a bowl and whisk it gently with a fork or whisk until the stringy bits are broken and it’s well combined. Be careful not to over-whisk, as too much foam can make the wrappers difficult to handle.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a non-stick pan over medium-low heat. Dip each dumpling wrapper into the whisked egg and place it in the pan. Fry until golden brown on one side.

Step 4

Step 5

Sprinkle 2 pinches of sugar evenly over each dumpling wrapper as it fries, for a total of 6 pinches. The sugar will caramelize slightly, adding a delightful sweetness.

Step 5

Step 6

Fold the dumpling wrapper in half to create a semi-circle, pressing gently with a spoon to help it seal and cook evenly. Continue to cook until both sides are golden brown and slightly crispy. Using the back of a spoon makes folding and pressing easy.

Step 6

Step 7

These pan-fried flattened dumplings, coated in egg, were such a hit with my daughter! She loved them so much and quickly munched them all up.

Step 7

Step 8

They turn out wonderfully crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and have a addictive sweet and savory flavor.

Step 8

Step 9

Now, let’s prepare the seasoned lettuce. Wash the lettuce leaves thoroughly and cut them into approximately 0.7cm wide strips. Try to cut them into uniform widths for a better texture.

Step 9

Step 10

In a bowl, combine the chopped lettuce with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, a pinch of toasted sesame seeds, and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Gently toss everything together with your hands until the lettuce is well-coated and slightly wilted, releasing a fresh, zesty aroma.

Step 10

Step 11

Time to cook the noodles for our Dungji Naengmyeon! Bring 800ml of water to a rolling boil in a pot. Once boiling, add the naengmyeon noodles and any included garnish. Cook for exactly 3 minutes.

Step 11

Step 12

While the noodles are cooking, stir them gently with chopsticks to prevent them from sticking together and ensure even cooking. This step is key to achieving perfectly separated noodles.

Step 12

Step 13

Drain the cooked noodles immediately into a colander and rinse them thoroughly under cold running water. Rub the noodles gently as you rinse to remove excess starch; this will make them extra chewy and springy.

Step 13

Step 14

After rinsing, let the noodles drain completely in the colander. Transfer the drained noodles to a serving bowl. Top with the Nongshim Dungji Naengmyeon’s seasoned spicy sauce.

Step 14

Step 15

Finally, arrange the freshly seasoned lettuce salad and the golden-brown flattened dumplings on top of the bibim naengmyeon. Your delicious Flattened Dumpling and Lettuce Bibim Naengmyeon is now complete!

Step 15

Step 16

Mix everything together and take a bite! You’ll be delighted by the harmonious blend of chewy noodles, spicy sauce, crisp lettuce, and savory flattened dumplings. It’s a satisfying and incredibly tasty meal that’s sure to awaken your appetite. Give it a try!

Step 16

Step 17

The savory crispness of the flattened dumplings beautifully mellows the heat of the bibim naengmyeon, making each bite enjoyable. The refreshing crunch of the lettuce salad adds a lovely contrast, creating a perfect ‘match made in heaven’ with the noodles. This unique bibim naengmyeon is truly delicious, so don’t miss out!
