Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by marinating the pork. In a bowl, combine 200g of thinly sliced pork with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Add 1 Tbsp of cooking wine (or Mirin/Sake) and 1 tsp of minced garlic, then gently mix well.
Step 2
To ensure the pork is extra tender and absorbs the flavors beautifully, add 1 Tbsp of cornstarch and mix again. The cornstarch will make the pork incredibly moist and delicious! Let the marinated pork rest for 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the vegetables. Trim the stems and remove the seeds from the green bell pepper and red bell pepper. Cut them in half lengthwise, then slice them into strips about 0.5 cm thick.
Step 4
Remove the seeds from the red chili peppers and slice them thinly into strips. (Feel free to leave some seeds in or add more chilies if you prefer a spicier dish.)
Step 5
Let’s make the delicious sauce that is the heart of this Gochujapchae! In a separate bowl, combine 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1.5 Tbsp oyster sauce, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 2 Tbsp cooking wine (or Mirin/Sake), and 1 Tbsp brown sugar. Whisk everything together until well combined.
Step 6
Heat a skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add a little cooking oil. Add the marinated pork and stir-fry until it starts to change color. Break up any clumps of pork as it cooks.
Step 7
Once the pork is mostly cooked through and no longer pink, add the thinly sliced onion to the skillet. Continue to stir-fry until the onions become translucent and fragrant.
Step 8
When the onions are about halfway cooked, add the sliced bell peppers (green and red) and red chilies to the skillet. Stir-fry everything together quickly over high heat. The goal is to keep the vegetables crisp-tender.
Step 9
As soon as the vegetables begin to soften slightly, pour in the prepared sauce. Toss everything together to coat the ingredients evenly with the sauce and continue to stir-fry for another minute.
Step 10
For the finishing touch, drizzle 1-2 Tbsp of chili oil over the mixture. This adds a wonderful depth of flavor and a hint of spice. Stir well to incorporate and cook for about 1 more minute.
Step 11
To enjoy your Gochujapchae to the fullest, prepare the flower buns. Place them in a steamer and steam for about 4-5 minutes until they are wonderfully soft and moist.
Step 12
Serve the delicious Gochujapchae on a plate, garnished with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for an extra touch of visual appeal. Enjoy this colorful and flavorful dish with the warm, fluffy flower buns for a truly impressive meal!
