Main Ingredients- 16 slices of thinly sliced pork leg (fat trimmed)
- 1/4 red bell pepper
- 1/4 yellow bell pepper
- Pickled garlic scapes (a small amount)
- 1/4 zucchini
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Pat dry the thinly sliced pork leg slices with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season each slice evenly with salt and pepper. This step helps to remove any gamey odor and enhance the meat’s flavor.
Step 2
Wash the red and yellow bell peppers and zucchini, remove the seeds, and cut them into long, thin strips about the thickness of chopsticks. Lay the seasoned pork slices flat, place the prepared vegetables on top, and roll them up tightly without them coming apart.
Step 3
Feel free to add other ingredients inside the rolls for extra flavor and texture! Enoki mushrooms, the white parts of green onions, or king oyster mushrooms are excellent choices. Be generous with your vegetable filling.
Step 4
Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat with a little oil. Carefully place the rolled pork pieces seam-side down first to help them hold their shape as they cook. Adjust the heat to ensure even cooking.
Step 5
Once the pork rolls are lightly browned on the first side, use chopsticks or tongs to gently turn them, rolling them around to ensure all sides are evenly browned and cooked through. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent burning.
Step 6
In a small bowl, whisk together 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 1/2 tablespoon of sugar to create a glaze. Brush this glaze generously over the pork rolls as they continue to cook. The sweet and savory glaze will caramelize, adding a delicious finish.
Step 7
After applying the glaze, continue to cook for just a short while longer on low heat, as the sugar can burn easily. Be very careful to prevent the glaze from burning. Cook until the rolls have a beautiful, glossy sheen. Enjoy your perfectly cooked, flavorful rolls!
