  • 1/2 apple (small size)
  • 1 Tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/3 tsp cinnamon powder (adjust to taste)
  • 5 slices of bread
  • 1 egg (egg white only)

Wash the apple thoroughly, remove the core, and dice it finely. Place the diced apple and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a small pot. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally. You don’t need to cook it for a long time like jam; just until the sugar dissolves and the apple pieces are slightly softened, about 3-5 minutes, to retain a slight crispiness.

Sprinkle 1/3 teaspoon of cinnamon powder over the cooked apple mixture. (Feel free to add a little more if you love cinnamon!) Stir gently with a spatula until well combined. Your delicious apple filling is now ready.

Trim the crusts off the bread slices. Use a rolling pin to flatten each slice of bread. This makes it easier to shape the pies later. Spoon a portion of the prepared apple filling onto the flattened bread. Brush the edges of the bread with egg white; this will act as a ‘glue’ to seal the pies.

Fold the bread slice in half to create a half-moon shape. Press down firmly along the edges with a fork to seal the pie securely, ensuring the filling won’t leak out and maintaining a neat shape.

No oven? No problem! Heat a non-stick frying pan over low heat. Add a little cooking oil and wipe it with a paper towel to lightly coat the pan. This prevents the pies from sticking and ensures a golden-brown finish. Place the prepared bread apple pies in the pan and cook over low heat, flipping them occasionally, until golden brown and crispy on both sides. Be careful not to burn them. Cook until the outside is crisp and the inside is warm and tender.
