Easy Spoonable Pizza
Make Spoonable Pizza with Leftover Bread: A Recipe to Use Up Stale Bread!
Introducing a delicious spoonable pizza recipe that’s easy to make with leftover bread and any stray vegetables you have. It’s a convenient dish to cook in the oven or air fryer, perfect for kids’ snacks or home parties!
Main Ingredients
- Bread slices 2.5 (based on thick slices; use 3 if thin)
- Butter 1 Tbsp
- Corn kernels 3 Tbsp
- Mozzarella cheese 100g
- Cheddar cheese 1 slice (sliced or shredded)
- Tomato spaghetti sauce 6-7 Tbsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Feel free to use any ingredients you have on hand for this spoonable pizza. Especially, utilizing leftover vegetables will make your pizza even richer and more delicious. While I used oyster mushrooms, king oyster or button mushrooms are also great, and you can even omit them if you don’t have any. However, it’s highly recommended to include onions and bell peppers for added flavor.
Step 2
Melt 1 Tbsp of butter in a pan over medium-low heat. Lightly toast the bread slices on both sides until golden brown. Be careful not to overcook them; the key is to toast them lightly for a crisp texture.
Step 3
If you don’t have pizza sauce, you can use tomato spaghetti sauce from your pantry. However, spaghetti sauce is quite watery, so you’ll need to simmer it in a pan, stirring with a spatula, to reduce the moisture. Make sure to stir constantly to prevent burning.
Step 4
Once the bread is lightly toasted in butter, let it cool slightly, then cut it into small, bite-sized pieces with a knife. This makes it easier to eat with the toppings and sauce later.
Step 5
Finely dice the onion and bell pepper. Slice the sausage and bacon into bite-sized pieces. Pit and thinly slice the black olives. Aside from bell peppers and onions, feel free to use any other toppings you have at home. Ham, leftover bulgogi, or even sautéed shrimp would be delicious additions!
Step 6
Add a little oil to the pan and sauté the diced onion and mushrooms over medium-low heat until they become translucent. Sauté them just enough to soften and release some moisture.
Step 7
Sauté the bacon strips until they are nicely browned. You don’t need to drain the bacon fat; it adds great flavor to the pizza.
Step 8
Arrange the cut bread slices evenly at the bottom of an oven-safe dish or air fryer basket. Try not to overlap them too much.
Step 9
Spread the reduced tomato spaghetti sauce evenly over the bread. Sprinkle a little mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce; this helps the next layer of ingredients adhere better.
Step 10
Layer the sautéed vegetables like onions and mushrooms evenly over the cheese. Adding vegetables will give your pizza a richer texture and enhance the flavor.
Step 11
Place another layer of bread pieces sporadically on top of the vegetables. Building a double layer of bread makes the pizza look more substantial.
Step 12
Drizzle the remaining tomato spaghetti sauce evenly over the bread and vegetables. Ensure there’s enough sauce for a moist and flavorful pizza.
Step 13
Generously top with all the prepared ingredients: sliced sausage, raw bell pepper (or paprika), cooked bacon, black olives, corn kernels, and any other toppings you’ve chosen. Don’t be shy with the toppings!
Step 14
Finish by topping with mozzarella cheese and cheddar cheese, sliced or shredded, for a beautiful finish. Plenty of cheese is key for that satisfying cheesy pull!
Step 15
Drizzle ketchup in a zigzag pattern for decoration. This step is mainly for visual appeal rather than taste, but it makes the pizza look more appetizing. Sprinkle with parsley flakes for an aromatic touch, if desired.
Step 16
Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for about 10 minutes. Adjust the time based on your oven’s performance. Since all the ingredients are already cooked, you just need to bake until the cheese is golden brown and the edges are slightly crisp. If using an air fryer, bake at 180°C (350°F) for 7-9 minutes.
