Tired of preheating and cleaning the oven or air fryer? This recipe shows you how to make a delicious tortilla pizza in a flash using just your microwave! We’ll cover a basic version with tomato sauce and plenty of toppings. Follow along for easy, step-by-step instructions perfect for beginners!
Main Ingredients
- 2 Tortillas (10-inch recommended)
- Assorted Vegetables (1/3 green bell pepper, 1/2 onion, 2 button mushrooms, 4 cherry tomatoes)
- Essential Toppings (1 handful sausage, 2 strips bacon)
- 1 handful Mozzarella cheese
- 2 Tbsp Tomato sauce (or pizza sauce, ketchup)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, peel and thoroughly wash the onion. Slice it into very thin strips. The thinner you slice it, the softer the texture will be when cooked.
Step 2
Remove the stem from the green bell pepper, wash it well, and scoop out the seeds. Slice it into thin strips, similar to the onion. You can also use bell peppers (like paprika).
Step 3
Trim the woody ends off the button mushrooms and slice them about 0.5 cm thick. If the mushrooms aren’t too dirty, it’s best not to wash them with water; simply brush off any dirt with a paper towel to preserve their flavor and aroma.
Step 4
Slice your chosen sausage into about 0.5 cm thick rounds. Cut the bacon into strips about 1 cm wide. (Tip: Using pepperoni or salami will add even more robust flavor!)
Step 5
Wash the cherry tomatoes under running water, remove their stems, and cut them in half.
Step 6
Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium-low heat. Add the thinly sliced onion and green bell pepper and sauté them briefly until they just begin to soften. You don’t want them fully cooked.
Step 7
All of your pizza toppings are now prepped and ready! (Note: The corn and nacho cheese in the photo are not part of this specific recipe.)
Step 8
Let’s start assembling the pizza! A 10-inch tortilla is the ideal size for microwave or air fryer pizzas. Lightly toast the tortilla on a dry pan over low heat on both sides until it’s just lightly golden. This step ensures a crispier crust.
Step 9
Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce evenly over the toasted tortilla. If you don’t have pizza sauce, regular tomato sauce works perfectly. In a pinch, even ketchup can be used, though adjust the amount as it’s sweeter.
Step 10
Sprinkle the pre-sautéed onion and green bell pepper over the sauce.
Step 11
Arrange the sliced bacon and button mushrooms attractively on top. Add corn kernels if you like, followed by the sliced sausage and cherry tomatoes.
Step 12
Now for the cheese! Generously sprinkle mozzarella cheese all over the toppings, according to your preference. (Tip: More cheese equals more deliciousness! Feel free to adjust the amount as you like; my portion in the photo is just a suggestion.)
Step 13
Place the assembled tortilla pizza in the microwave and cook for about 3 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly. (Microwave cooking times may vary.)
Step 14
While thick-crust pizzas are wonderful, why not try making these thin and crispy tortilla pizzas for a special weekend meal or a fun snack for the kids? Everyone is sure to love them!
