Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread
  • 2 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 2 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cucumber
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 2 olives
  • 4 blueberries

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, trim the crusts off the bread slices and cut each slice into 4 equal squares, creating bite-sized pieces. Toast these bread squares in an oven or air fryer at approximately 180°C (350°F) for 3-4 minutes until golden brown and slightly crispy. This adds a delightful crunch.

Step 1

Step 2

Spread a thin, even layer of mayonnaise onto each toasted bread square. Mayonnaise acts as a binder for the toppings and adds a creamy, savory flavor. Be careful not to use too much, as it can make the canapes too rich.

Step 2

Step 3

Cut the cheddar cheese slices into pieces roughly the same size as the bread squares. You can remove the plastic wrapping before cutting. Place a piece of cheese on top of the mayonnaise-coated bread. The cheese will melt slightly and enhance the flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

Cook the bacon in a dry skillet over medium-low heat, turning occasionally, until crispy. Drain excess grease on paper towels. Cut the cooked bacon into bite-sized pieces (about 1-2 cm) and arrange them on top of the cheese. The salty, smoky flavor of the bacon significantly elevates the canape.

Step 4

Step 5

Slice the cucumber thinly into rounds. Place a cucumber slice on top of the bacon. The fresh cucumber adds a refreshing crunch and a beautiful visual contrast, balancing the richness of the other ingredients.

Step 5

Step 6

Finally, garnish each canape with a pitted olive or a sweet blueberry. You can also use cherry tomatoes or small leafy greens. Feel free to experiment with other fruits, vegetables, or deli meats to create your own unique and personalized canapes!
