Sweet & Crispy! How to Make Coco Ball Crispy Treats with Just 3 Ingredients from Leftover Cereal (+Video)

Hello everyone! This is Mia, your American mom. Today, I’ve made Coco Ball Crispy Treats in a style similar to the famous ‘Rice Krispie Treats’ in the US! If you use rice cereal, it becomes a traditional Rice Krispie treat. However, I heard that rice cereal isn’t commonly available in Korea, so I’ve created this recipe using Coco Balls! You can substitute with any other puffed cereal. This recipe is perfect for using up leftover cereal and making a delicious, crunchy snack!

Coco Ball Crispy Ingredients
  • 180g Coco Ball Cereal
  • 23 Marshmallows (approx. 200g)
  • 43g Unsalted Butter (approx. 3 Tbsp)
  • 3g Vanilla Extract (approx. 1/2 tsp, optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the marshmallows and butter. Microwave for 1 minute. The marshmallows will start to puff up. Microwave times can vary depending on your appliance, so keep a close eye on them to prevent burning.

Step 2

After the first minute, carefully stir with a spatula. If they’re not fully melted, microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the mixture is smooth and completely melted.

Step 3

Once the butter is fully melted and the marshmallows are smoothly combined, stir in the vanilla extract until no lumps remain. The vanilla extract adds a lovely flavor, but it’s entirely optional and won’t affect the taste significantly if omitted!

Step 4

Add the Coco Ball cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture. Gently fold with a spatula until all the cereal pieces are evenly coated. I used Coco Balls because rice cereal can be hard to find, but any puffed cereal, like popcorn-shaped ones, will work wonderfully!

Step 5

Mix just until the cereal is coated. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the treats soggy.

Step 6

Grease a square pan (I used a 22×22 cm pan) or line it with parchment paper. Pour the cereal mixture into the prepared pan. Use a spatula to press the mixture evenly into the pan, creating a flat surface. Alternatively, you can lightly grease your hands and form individual portions like rice balls, or use a larger pan or even a pot – any method works!

Step 7

To get a smooth top, I lightly greased my hands with oil (wearing gloves helps!) and pressed down firmly. This prevents sticking and helps create an even layer.

Step 8

Let the treats cool completely at room temperature until firm. Once set, cut them into your desired shapes and enjoy your delicious, crispy Coco Ball treats! They’re perfect with a glass of milk.
