Main Ingredients
- 150g scallions
- 1 cup store-bought seaweed flakes (approx. 12g)
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Thoroughly wash the scallions under running water. Remove any wilted outer leaves and trim off the yellowed ends, using only the fresh green parts.
Step 2
After washing and patting them dry, cut the scallions into manageable lengths of about 4-5 cm. Cutting them before cooking ensures a uniform size and a neat presentation.
Step 3
Arrange the cut scallions in a single layer on a plate and cover with plastic wrap. It’s best to leave a small gap at the ends of the wrap to allow steam to escape.
Step 4
Microwave the wrapped scallions for 30 seconds, then repeat for another 30 seconds. The exact cooking time may vary depending on your microwave’s wattage. Check the scallion’s texture after the first 30-second interval and add more time if needed. (TIP: Boiling scallions can release a lot of moisture, making them sticky. Using a microwave cooks them quickly without excess liquid, keeping them crisp and fresh.)
Step 5
We’re using commercially available seaweed flakes for this recipe. Please check the product label, as these typically contain salt and oil already.
Step 6
Add 2 tablespoons of ground sesame seeds and 1/5 teaspoon of salt to the microwaved scallions. Gently toss to coat evenly. Pre-seasoning with ground sesame seeds helps absorb any released moisture, contributing to a crispier texture.
Step 7
Now, add 1 cup of store-bought seaweed flakes (about 12g) and 1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil to the scallions coated with ground sesame seeds. Mix gently until everything is well combined. Since the seaweed flakes are already seasoned, we’re adding minimal salt and only a small amount of sesame oil for fragrance.
Step 8
Finally, sprinkle 1/2 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds over the dish to finish. This adds a wonderful nutty aroma and a beautiful final touch.
Step 9
And there you have it! Your delicious Scallion Kim Muchim, made effortlessly with the help of a microwave. This vibrant dish is ready to enhance any meal with its delightful flavor and texture.
