Ingredients
- 3 slices of bread
- 3 frankfurter sausages
- 3 slices of cheese
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- Tomato spaghetti sauce, a little
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 1 Tbsp sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Score the frankfurter sausages with a knife. Making zigzag cuts will make them look more appealing and appetizing when cooked.
Step 2
If you prefer a lighter taste for the sausages, you can briefly blanch them in boiling water, then pat them completely dry with a paper towel before use. This helps reduce greasiness.
Step 3
Thinly flatten the slices of bread using a rolling pin or a bottle. Thinning the bread makes it easier to wrap around the sausage and roll it up neatly later.
Step 4
Flattening the bread thinly ensures that it rolls up nicely without breaking and maintains a good shape. If it’s too thick, it can be difficult to roll or the shape might become uneven, so flatten it thoroughly.
Step 5
Spread a thin layer of sauce on one side of the flattened bread. If you have tomato spaghetti sauce, spread about 1 tablespoon thinly. If not, mayonnaise can also be used for a different flavor profile.
Step 6
Place one slice of cheese on top of the sauce. The melted cheese acts as a binder, helping to hold the bread and sausage together.
Step 7
Add about a cup of shredded mozzarella cheese over the slice cheese. Be careful not to overfill, as too much cheese can cause the bread to burst when wrapped.
Step 8
Place the prepared frankfurter sausage on top of the cheese. Positioning the scored side upwards will make it look more attractive.
Step 9
Wrap the bread securely around the sausage and cheese. To prevent it from unraveling, insert 2-3 toothpicks to hold it in place.
Step 10
Melt 1 tablespoon of butter slightly in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds. It’s best if it’s softened rather than completely liquid.
Step 11
In the melted butter, mix in 1 tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of dried parsley (optional) to create a sweet butter sauce.
Step 12
Using a brush, generously coat the outside of the bread-wrapped hot dogs (secured with toothpicks) with the prepared sweet butter sauce. For a kid-friendly version, a sweet sauce is used here, but a savory garlic butter sauce is also delicious!
Step 13
Place the bread hot dogs in the air fryer basket and cook at 180°C (350°F) for 7-8 minutes. Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer model, so adjust as needed until the bread is golden brown and looks deliciously toasted.
Step 14
Your crispy on the outside, gooey-cheese-filled bread hot dogs are ready! They make a fantastic snack for kids.
Step 15
The scored sausage part is beautifully browned, making them even more appealing.
Step 16
When you cut them in half, the stretchy cheese and sausage filling will delight children!
Step 17
With a crispy exterior and a rich filling of cheese and sausage, these are delicious for both adults and kids alike.
Step 18
Adding a little ketchup can enhance the flavor even further. They are so quick and easy to make, yet incredibly tasty, you’ll find yourself making them often!
