Essential Ingredients
  • Plenty of dumpling wrappers (about 20-30 sheets)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 4 Tbsp melted butter
  • Granulated sugar, for coating, as needed
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting, as needed
  • Matcha powder, for dusting, as needed
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate (approx. 50g)
  • A little crushed peanuts

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Cut the dumpling wrappers into long strips, about 1.5cm wide. It’s best to cut them to a moderate thickness, as cutting them too thin can cause them to break easily.

Step 2

In a small bowl, crack 1 egg and add 2 Tbsp of sugar. Whisk well until the sugar is dissolved to make an egg wash.

Step 3

Lay out one cut dumpling wrapper and brush it lightly with the egg wash. Take another dumpling wrapper, apply egg wash to the edge of the first one, and attach the second wrapper to extend it. Repeat this process, layering and attaching several dumpling wrappers, then twisting them or forming them into a round shape. Feel free to create any shape you like.

Step 4

Brush the outside of the assembled dumpling wrapper shapes generously with melted butter using a pastry brush. After applying the butter, roll the shapes in granulated sugar placed on a wide plate, ensuring the surface is evenly coated. The sugar will add a delightful crispiness.

Step 5

Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper and place the Schneeballen shapes inside. Bake in a preheated air fryer at 170°C (340°F) for 30 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. If you notice a burning smell, reduce the temperature or adjust the cooking time.

Step 6

Place the milk chocolate in a small heatproof bowl. Fill a wider pot with boiling water and place the chocolate bowl over it to melt the chocolate using a double boiler (bain-marie). Stir until the chocolate is smoothly melted without any lumps.

Step 7

Once baked, let the Schneeballen cool slightly on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar or matcha powder, or brush with the melted chocolate and sprinkle with crushed peanuts for decoration. Customize your Schneeballen in various ways to create your own unique dessert!
