A Perfect Match! Easy Recipe for Delicious Dubu Kimchi
Experience the ideal combination of spicy stir-fried kimchi and savory pan-fried tofu! This is a simple and delicious Dubu Kimchi recipe that even beginners can follow with ease.
Ingredients- 1/2 head of Kimchi
- 1 can of Tuna (drained)
- 2 Tbsp Perilla Oil (Deulgireum)
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 block of Tofu (firm, suitable for frying recommended)
- A little Cooking Oil (for frying tofu)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s make the sweet and spicy stir-fried kimchi. Many people make Dubu Kimchi with stir-fried pork, but using tuna this way is also incredibly delicious. Finely chop the kimchi into bite-sized pieces (about 1-2 cm wide). Place the chopped kimchi in a pot or deep pan, add 1 can of drained tuna, 2 tablespoons of perilla oil, and 1 tablespoon of sugar.
Step 2
Stir-fry everything over medium heat until the kimchi, tuna, and seasonings are well combined. Continue to stir-fry for about 5-7 minutes until the kimchi softens and the sauce thickens. Taste and adjust sugar or kimchi’s sourness to your preference.
Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the delicious tofu. For Dubu Kimchi, it’s better to use firm tofu meant for frying rather than soft tofu, as it holds its shape better and won’t fall apart. Thoroughly pat the tofu dry with paper towels. Be cautious as remaining water can cause oil to splatter.
Step 4
Slice the tofu into desired pieces. If you’re serving it to children, slicing it to their preferred thickness is a good idea. Typically, slicing it about 1-1.5 cm thick provides a nice texture. Slicing them slightly thicker than thin will enhance the satisfying chew.
Step 5
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the tofu slices in the pan. Pan-fry them until golden brown and slightly crispy on both sides. Cooking each side for 2-3 minutes will result in wonderfully crispy exteriors and tender interiors.
Step 6
Prepare a large plate or platter. In the center, artfully arrange the delicious, spicy stir-fried kimchi. You can shape it in a circle or create a pleasing mound to make it look even more appetizing.
Step 7
Arrange the golden-brown pan-fried tofu slices in a circle around the stir-fried kimchi. This creates a visually appealing Dubu Kimchi! It’s best enjoyed warm, so serve it immediately. It makes a fantastic side dish for rice or a great snack to accompany drinks.
