Dragon Fruit Syrup

  • 100g Dragon fruit peel (thoroughly washed)
  • 100g Sugar (granulated or brown sugar)

Dragon Fruit Ade

  • 3 Tbsp Homemade Dragon Fruit Syrup
  • 150ml Sparkling water or Sprite
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Thoroughly sterilize a glass jar by boiling it or rinsing with hot water, then ensure it is completely dry. A clean jar is crucial for preserving the syrup for a longer period.

Step 1

Step 2

Wash the dragon fruit meticulously. You can use baking soda or vinegar to scrub the peel clean, as we will be using it. Thorough washing is essential.

Step 2

Step 3

Carefully separate the peel from the dragon fruit flesh after washing. You can use the dragon fruit flesh for other culinary purposes.

Step 3

Step 4

Finely julienne or mince the dragon fruit peel. The thickness of the peel and how finely it’s cut can affect how well the flavor and aroma infuse into the syrup.

Step 4

Step 5

Add the sugar to the finely chopped dragon fruit peel and mix well. The sugar will draw out moisture from the peel, effectively pickling it.

Step 5

Step 6

Transfer the sugared dragon fruit peel mixture into the sterilized glass jar. After filling, gently shake the jar a few times to help the sugar dissolve, or cover and let it sit at room temperature for about a day to allow the sugar to melt. Afterwards, store it in the refrigerator to mature. Letting it age for about a week will yield an even richer flavor.

Step 6

Step 7

Now, let’s make the refreshing Dragon Fruit Ade! Start by adding 2-3 tablespoons of the prepared dragon fruit syrup into your serving glass. You can adjust the amount of syrup to your personal taste.

Step 7

Step 8

Pour about 150ml of chilled sparkling water or Sprite into the glass with the syrup. Using carbonated water will give you a more invigorating fizz. Add ice cubes for an extra frosty treat, if desired.
