Deliciously Warm Taiyaki (Fish-Shaped Pastry)
Homemade Taiyaki Recipe
Relive the fun memories of making taiyaki together with friends during a school activity last autumn. You can easily make delicious taiyaki at home too!
Taiyaki Batter Ingredients
- 500g store-bought Taiyaki mix
- 600ml milk (or 600ml water)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 500g of taiyaki mix in a large bowl. Gradually add 600ml of milk while mixing thoroughly with a whisk to create a smooth batter without lumps. It’s important to mix well until you achieve a flowing consistency that’s neither too thin nor too thick. (If you don’t have milk, you can also use 600ml of cold water.)
Step 2
Pour the prepared taiyaki batter into the taiyaki molds. Be careful not to overfill the molds; fill them about 70-80% full to allow the batter to puff up and form a beautiful shape. If you don’t have taiyaki molds, you can get creative with pancake or waffle molds to make similar fun shapes.
Step 3
Place the taiyaki molds over medium-low heat and cook for about 5 minutes. Control the heat carefully to prevent burning, and flip them occasionally for even cooking. Cook until they turn a lovely golden brown, achieving a crispy exterior and a moist interior. You’ll know they’re almost ready when you start smelling that wonderful baking aroma!
Step 4
Carefully remove the perfectly golden-brown taiyaki from the molds. Your warm and delicious taiyaki are ready! Feel free to fill them with sweet red bean paste, custard cream, chocolate, or enjoy them with a drizzle of maple syrup or condensed milk to suit your taste.
