Ingredients
  • 1 package of fish cakes (choose your favorite brand)
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced or minced
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup or honey (for sweetness, adjust as needed)
  • 1 Tbsp cooking wine (like Mirin, to remove fishy odor)
  • 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil (for a nutty aroma)
  • Pinch of black pepper (optional)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, lightly oil a pan and stir-fry the sliced onion over medium-low heat until it becomes translucent. This process brings out the natural sweetness of the onion. If your fish cakes are large, cut them into bite-sized pieces. For thin, flat fish cakes, slice them at this stage.

Step 2

Once the onions start to turn transparent, add the prepared fish cakes to the pan and stir-fry them together. Be sure to stir occasionally to prevent the fish cakes from sticking to the pan.

Step 3

Now, let’s make the delicious soy sauce seasoning. Add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of corn syrup (or honey), and 1 tablespoon of cooking wine to the pan. Stir well to ensure the seasoning coats the fish cakes and onions evenly. Stir-frying over medium heat will prevent the sauce from burning and give it a glossy finish.

Step 4

If you’re preparing this for children, set aside a portion before adding the next ingredient. For the adult portion, add a pinch of black pepper according to your preference and stir-fry once more for a richer flavor. Finally, turn off the heat, drizzle in half a tablespoon of sesame oil, and sprinkle with sesame seeds to garnish. Your delicious soy sauce fish cake stir-fry is now complete!
