Delicious Soy-Marinated Crab Bibimbap Recipe for a Hearty Home Meal
Home Cooking Classic: Irresistible Soy-Marinated Crab Bibimbap
Introducing a nutritious and flavorful bibimbap recipe packed with the essence of fresh soy-marinated crab (Ganjang Gejang). The savory crab meat, crisp vegetables, and nutty sesame oil come together in perfect harmony for a satisfying bowl of rice. It’s a wonderful dish to enjoy as a special treat when your appetite is low, and a perfect way to show your love for family members who adore Ganjang Gejang. This recipe was created out of a mother’s concern for her son, who would often get mouth sores after enjoying the delicious, albeit sometimes intense, flavor of soy-marinated crab.
Ingredients- 1 Ganjang Gejang (soy-marinated crab), meat picked out
- 1 bowl of warm cooked rice
- 1 Tbsp perilla oil
- 1 Cheongyang chili pepper, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
- A little cooking oil (for cooking the egg)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Ganjang Gejang is delicious on its own, but let’s transform it into a delightful bibimbap for your loved ones! Although it might seem a little tedious, this bibimbap is worth the effort. For one Ganjang Gejang, put on gloves and carefully pick out all the succulent crab meat from the shell. Set aside. (Tip: To easily extract the crab meat without damaging it, use the back of a spoon.)
Step 2
Prepare a large mixing bowl for your bibimbap. Spread 1 tablespoon of perilla oil evenly across the bottom of the bowl. The nutty aroma of the perilla oil will subtly infuse the entire dish, enhancing its flavor.
Step 3
Finely chop one Cheongyang chili pepper. Place the chopped chili pepper on top of the perilla oil-coated bowl. The sharp and spicy flavor of the chili will complement the rich umami of the Ganjang Gejang, further elevating the bibimbap’s appeal. (Feel free to adjust the amount of chili or omit it if you prefer less spice.)
Step 4
To add a creamy texture, prepare a scrambled egg to place on top. Lightly oil a pan, pour in the beaten egg, and stir gently with chopsticks until you have a soft scramble. (For added texture and flavor, you can also finely chop and sauté some onion or green onion to add with the egg.)
Step 5
Now, arrange the picked Ganjang Gejang meat attractively over the scrambled egg. The salty and deeply savory crab meat, marinated in soy sauce, is the star of this dish. Drizzle 1 teaspoon of sesame oil over the crab meat to add a fragrant finish.
Step 6
Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of toasted sesame seeds over the crab meat for an extra nutty crunch. Finally, place a generous serving of warm cooked rice on top of all the ingredients, and your bibimbap base is ready!
Step 7
Serve the leftover Ganjang Gejang marinade on the side. When you’re ready to mix and eat, add a little of this marinade to your bibimbap if needed – it will enhance the savory flavors. (Tip: Use the Ganjang Gejang marinade sparingly at first, as it can be quite salty. You can always add a bit more soy sauce or seasoning if required.)
Step 8
If you have some seasoned seaweed flakes (Gim Jaban), adding a sprinkle before mixing can create another delightful layer of flavor and texture.
Step 9
This Ganjang Gejang Bibimbap, especially when paired with kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), is a true ‘rice thief’ – it’s so delicious you’ll finish your rice in no time! Prepare to be amazed by this irresistible flavor.
