As the rainy season seems to be drawing to a close, the news predicts a heatwave with temperatures soaring to 35 degrees Celsius starting tomorrow! With such intense heat, my appetite tends to dwindle… but we still need to eat! Even if it’s a hassle, I turn on the air conditioner and get busy in the kitchen. This time, I’m making a ‘Sausage and Vegetable Stir-Fry,’ which is also great for clearing out your fridge. It’s a simple yet satisfying dish that’s perfect for a quick meal or as a side dish for kids. Let’s make a delicious meal that’s perfect for a delightful dinner!

Main Ingredients
  • Vienna sausages or your preferred sausages
  • 1/2 Onion
  • Bell peppers (using various colors looks nice)
  • Sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables and sausages by cutting them into bite-sized pieces. Slice the onion thinly or dice it, and cut the bell peppers into similar sizes. If you’re using Vienna sausages, make cross-shaped cuts on them; this makes them look more appealing when cooked and helps the sauce to penetrate better, making them tastier! If you’re using larger sausages, cut them into bite-sized chunks.

Step 2

Heat 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers and stir-fry until they become slightly translucent and soften. Stir-frying them until they release some moisture will enhance their natural sweetness.

Step 3

Once the vegetables are partially cooked, add the prepared sausages to the pan and stir-fry them together with the vegetables. Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sausages are lightly browned and well combined with the vegetables.

Step 4

Now it’s time to make the delicious sauce. Add 5 tablespoons of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce, and 1 tablespoon of sugar to the pan. Stir everything together thoroughly to coat the ingredients evenly with the sauce. Be mindful of the heat to prevent the sauce from burning.

Step 5

Continue to stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until all the ingredients are well coated with the sauce and the ‘Sausage and Vegetable Stir-Fry’ is beautifully done!
