Essential Ingredients- 2 Potatoes
- 3 Tbsp Starch (potato starch or cornstarch)
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 2 String Cheese sticks
- Frying oil, as needed
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Peel the potatoes and wash them thoroughly. Cut them into large, bite-sized cubes, about 2cm in size. This will help them cook faster.
Step 2
Place the cubed potatoes in a bowl and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of water. Cover with plastic wrap and microwave for about 5 minutes until the potatoes are soft. You should be able to easily pierce them with a fork.
Step 3
While the potatoes are still hot, mash them thoroughly using a fork or a potato masher until smooth and lump-free. Add 3 tablespoons of starch and 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the mashed potatoes. Mix well to form a dough. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more starch.
Step 4
Cut the string cheese into approximately 2cm lengths. Cutting them to a manageable size will prevent them from melting out too much during frying.
Step 5
Take a portion of the potato dough, flatten it in your palm, and place a piece of cut string cheese in the center. Carefully enclose the cheese with the dough and shape it into a smooth ball. Ensure the cheese is completely sealed within the dough to prevent leakage.
Step 6
Heat enough frying oil in a pot to about 175-180°C (350-360°F). Carefully add the potato cheese balls to the hot oil and fry for about 3-5 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Turn them occasionally to ensure even cooking. Once fried, remove the balls with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil before serving. Enjoy your delicious homemade potato cheese balls!
