Delicious Pork Bulgogi, Homemade Style
A Delicious Pork Bulgogi Recipe Born from a Little Kitchen Mishap!
Sometimes in the kitchen, a dish can turn out quite differently from what we initially planned. Today was one of those days for me! I had intended to make a rolled pork and vegetable dish, but as soon as it hit the heat, everything started to unravel. So, what could I do? It transformed into a flavorful pork bulgogi! In the end, the taste was familiar and wonderfully satisfying. Is that not the most important thing? So, let’s embrace the delicious outcome, even when things don’t go exactly as planned!
Main Ingredients
- 300g pork (thinly sliced, suitable for bulgogi, is recommended)
- 1/5 carrot
- 3 Korean green peppers (oigochu)
- 1 ginseng root
- A little bit of grilling cheese (mozzarella or string cheese also works well)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
This recipe might have started with an unexpected turn, but it promises a uniquely delicious result! First, if your pork slices are clumped together, gently separate them and lay them out as thinly as possible. Thin slices absorb the marinade better and offer a more tender texture. Once the pork is thinly spread, sprinkle cornstarch evenly over the surface. This creates a light coating that helps the sauce adhere better and prevents the meat from breaking apart too much during cooking.
Step 2
Julienne the carrot into thin strips. Deseed the Korean green peppers and slice them to a similar size as the carrot. Wash the ginseng root thoroughly. Prepare a small amount of grilling cheese. Now, place the julienned carrot, sliced green peppers, ginseng root, and grilling cheese onto the thinly spread pork slices. Carefully roll them up tightly, just like making a kimbap roll. This step is where my original intention for a rolled dish comes in! (Tip: If the rolls tend to unravel, you can use plastic wrap or a bamboo mat to help shape and secure them firmly.)
Step 3
Up to this point, I was still hopeful about the rolled pork and vegetable dish I had planned. Things were looking okay… but as we know, the kitchen is full of surprises!
Step 4
Now, here comes the unexpected twist! As I placed the rolled pieces into the hot pan, they began to separate. Oh no! My carefully prepared rolls decided to go their own separate ways. (At this point, the key is not to panic but to adapt!)
Step 5
Instead of the intended rolled dish, I decided to embrace the situation and transform it into a delicious pork bulgogi. Add a little oil to the pan and stir-fry the separated pork and vegetables together. Once the pork is partially cooked, add the soy sauce (2.5 Tbsp), plum extract (1 Tbsp), and ginger extract (1/2 Tbsp). Stir-fry everything until the sauce evenly coats all the ingredients and the flavors meld beautifully. The aroma will be incredible! Congratulations, you’ve made your very own special pork bulgogi. Enjoy this delicious dish that turned an unexpected challenge into a culinary success!
