Main Ingredients

  • Leftover Japchae (1 serving, thawed and cut)
  • Warm cooked rice (approx. 450g / 1.5 cups)
  • Green onion (1/4 stalk, finely chopped)
  • Oyster sauce (2 Tbsp)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, ensure any frozen Japchae is completely thawed. You can do this in the microwave or by gently heating it in a pan over low heat. Once thawed, the noodles might be a bit tangled. Use scissors or a knife to cut the Japchae into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 cm long. This step makes it easier to mix with the rice and helps achieve the classic Japchae Rice Bowl texture.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the oil is warm, add the finely chopped green onions. Stir-fry them until fragrant to create ‘green onion oil.’ This aromatic oil is key to enhancing the overall flavor of your Japchae Rice Bowl. Cook for about 1 minute, being careful not to burn the onions.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the green onion oil is fragrant, add the prepared Japchae to the pan. Continue to stir-fry over medium heat, gently mixing with a spatula to prevent sticking. If the Japchae seems a bit bland at this stage, you can taste it and adjust the seasoning now.

Step 3

Step 4

After stir-frying the Japchae for a short while, add the warm cooked rice to the pan. Use your spatula to break up any clumps of rice and mix it thoroughly with the Japchae. The rice will absorb the heat and flavors, becoming fluffy and well combined with the Japchae.

Step 4

Step 5

Finally, add 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce and stir-fry everything together quickly for about 1 minute, ensuring the sauce coats all the ingredients evenly. The oyster sauce adds a wonderful umami depth to the dish. Once everything is well combined and heated through, turn off the heat. Serve in a warm bowl for a delightful Japchae Rice Bowl!
