Main Ingredients

  • 2 handfuls (approx. 200g) fresh bean sprouts
  • 2 cups short-grain rice
  • 2 rice cups of water
  • 2 pieces dried kelp (5cm x 5cm each)

Seasoning Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/2 Tbsp oligo syrup (or corn syrup)
  • 1 Tbsp finely chopped red chili pepper
  • 1 Tbsp finely chopped green chili pepper
  • 2 Tbsp chopped scallions
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, rinse the rice thoroughly under running water. After rinsing, drain the water and let the rice soak in fresh water for at least 20 minutes. This soaking process helps the rice grains become fluffier and more delicious when cooked.

Place the soaked rice and 2 rice cups of water into your rice cooker. Add the thoroughly washed bean sprouts and the pieces of dried kelp on top. Select the ‘White Rice’ or ‘Standard Cook’ setting on your rice cooker and begin cooking.

While the Kongnamulbap is cooking, let’s prepare the delicious seasoning sauce. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 Tbsp oligo syrup, 1 Tbsp finely chopped red chili pepper, 1 Tbsp finely chopped green chili pepper, 2 Tbsp chopped scallions, 3 Tbsp soy sauce, 2 Tbsp sesame oil, and 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds. Mix everything together thoroughly. You can adjust the seasoning to your preference.

Once the rice cooker signals that cooking is complete, wait a few minutes for the rice to steam. Then, gently mix the rice from the bottom up using a rice paddle. Be careful not to mash the bean sprouts; mix them in softly.

Serve the finished Kongnamulbap in individual bowls. Spoon a generous amount of the prepared seasoning sauce over the rice and mix well before eating. The refreshing, mild taste of the bean sprouts combined with the savory sauce is absolutely delightful! Enjoy your meal.
