Main Ingredients

  • 1 block tofu

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 1 stalk green onion
  • 2 Korean green chili peppers
  • 1/4 onion
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 7 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • Water (enough to cover the tofu)
  • 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin)
  • 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili powder)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, slice the tofu into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 cm thick. Thinly julienne the onion. Finely chop the green onion and Korean green chili peppers to add flavor to the seasoning.

In a bowl, combine all the seasoning ingredients and mix well. The sugar, soy sauce, minced garlic, cooking wine, gochugaru, and sesame oil will come together to create a delicious sauce.

Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Place the sliced tofu in the hot oil and pan-fry it on both sides until golden brown and slightly crispy. This step prevents the tofu from breaking apart and helps it absorb the sauce better, making it even more delicious.

After draining off excess oil from the pan, pour in the prepared seasoning sauce. Add enough water to just cover the tofu. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat and let it braise until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu beautifully. Just before turning off the heat, add the chopped green onions and chili peppers and mix gently. This will add a fragrant aroma.
