Main Ingredients (Adjust to your liking)- 1 handful of well-fermented kimchi (approx. 150-200g)
- 1/2 block of firm tofu (approx. 150-200g)
- 1/2 Tbsp salt (for boiling tofu)
Kimchi Stir-fry Seasoning- 1 Tbsp soy sauce (using a Korean soup spoon)
- 1 Tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, adjust to spice preference)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil (for nutty aroma)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic (adds depth of flavor)
- A small amount of green onion (approx. 2-3cm, finely chopped – for color and aroma)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce (using a Korean soup spoon)
- 1 Tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, adjust to spice preference)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil (for nutty aroma)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic (adds depth of flavor)
- A small amount of green onion (approx. 2-3cm, finely chopped – for color and aroma)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, lightly oil a pan and sauté the finely chopped green onions and minced garlic over low heat until fragrant. Be careful not to burn them; gently infusing the oil is key. Add the kimchi, cut into bite-sized pieces, and stir-fry together until the kimchi softens.
Step 2
Once the kimchi is somewhat cooked, it’s time to add the flavoring. Stir in 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar, and 1 Tbsp gochugaru. Mix well and continue to stir-fry until the kimchi and seasonings are evenly combined. The sugar helps to balance the acidity of the kimchi and enhances its savory notes.
Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the tofu. Cut the tofu into your preferred serving sizes (squares or triangles). Bring a pot of water to a boil and add 1/2 Tbsp of salt. Once boiling, carefully add the tofu and blanch for about 3 minutes. This process firms up the tofu and removes any raw taste, making it more delicious.
Step 4
Arrange the warm blanched tofu and the beautifully stir-fried kimchi on a plate. Your delicious Tofu Kimchi is ready! Enjoy it with freshly steamed rice for a hearty meal, or pair it with makgeolli (Korean rice wine) or beer for a delightful snack. For an extra touch, you can sprinkle with perilla oil or toasted sesame seeds.
