Dalgona Made with an Induction Cooktop

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp white sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, place the ladle or small pot you’ll use for the Dalgona on your induction or electric cooktop and preheat it over medium heat. Wait a moment for it to get nice and hot.

Step 1

Step 2

Once the ladle is sufficiently heated, add 1 tablespoon of white sugar. As the sugar begins to melt, use a spatula or chopstick to stir gently and evenly. Continue stirring until it melts into a clear syrup, being careful not to burn it.

Step 2

Step 3

When the sugar syrup starts to turn a light brown, caramel color, it’s time to add the baking soda. Dip the tip of a chopstick into the baking soda and add it to the melting sugar syrup. You’ll see it start to bubble and foam where the baking soda touches the syrup. Quickly stir just once or twice with a spatula or chopstick to distribute the foam evenly. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make it taste bitter!

Step 3

Step 4

Lay a sheet of parchment paper on a flat plate or cutting board. Carefully pour the Dalgona mixture onto the parchment paper. Be very cautious as it’s hot! As the mixture begins to cool and set slightly, use cookie cutters to shape it, or gently press it flat with the back of a spoon. Work quickly before it hardens completely.

Step 4

Step 5

Mine unfortunately broke when I tried to use a shape cutter. T_T But that’s okay! The broken Dalgona pieces are also delicious when crumbled and added to warm coffee or milk. They add a wonderful sweet flavor for a unique treat.

Step 5

Step 6

I wasn’t quite satisfied with the first try, so I made another one! This time, I used a star-shaped mold and successfully made a pretty star Dalgona. Give making your own Dalgona a try!
