- 1 Tbsp Soy sauce

- 1/2 cup (100ml) Water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the chicken breast. If using frozen chicken breast, soak it in cold water for about 10 minutes to thaw. If using fresh chicken breast, proceed to the next step.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine all the sauce ingredients except for the water (Gochujang, oyster sauce, Gochugaru, minced garlic, plum extract, soy sauce, sesame oil).
Step 3
Mix the sauce ingredients thoroughly with a spoon and let it rest for a while. This allows the flavors to meld and deepen.
Step 4
After thawing, lightly rinse the chicken breast under running water and pat dry. Cut it into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 cm cubes. Cutting it too small might cause it to break apart during cooking.
Step 5
Add the cubed chicken breast to the prepared sauce and mix well with your hands, ensuring each piece is evenly coated. Marinating the chicken is key for a flavorful Dakgalbi.
Step 6
Prepare the vegetables. Peel the potato and cut it into similar-sized pieces as the chicken. Thinly slice the onion. Chop the carrot and cabbage into similar sizes. Slice the green onion diagonally and finely chop the Cheongyang chili pepper. (Feel free to add other vegetables like mushrooms or perilla leaves according to your preference.)
Step 7
In a wide and deep pan or wok, add all the prepared vegetables (potato, onion, carrot, cabbage, green onion, Cheongyang chili pepper). Then, place the marinated chicken breast on top of the vegetables.
Step 8
Pour in the reserved half cup of water. Turn the heat to medium and stir-fry all the ingredients together. Stir occasionally to prevent the sauce from sticking or burning.
Step 9
Once the mixture starts to bubble, cover with a lid and continue to cook, stirring occasionally. Cook until the potatoes are tender.
Step 10
Check if the potatoes are fully cooked by piercing them with a fork or chopstick. Once the potatoes are tender, turn off the heat. Your Dakgalbi is ready!
Step 11
Serve the delicious spicy and sweet Dakgalbi generously on a plate and enjoy! It’s a great side dish for rice or a perfect accompaniment to drinks. You can also stir-fry rice or add noodles at the end for an extra treat.
