Today’s dish is a German sausage specialty featuring a divine sweet and savory signature sauce: Curry Wurst! The name might sound unfamiliar, but think of it as a Western-style sausage stir-fry. 😀 We’ll also share a fantastic tip for keeping your shiitake mushrooms from turning dark and a clever way to julienne your green onions!

Main Ingredients

  • 4 plump sausages
  • A pinch of fresh parsley (for garnish)

Curry Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 can (approx. 300ml) of cola
  • 1 cube of solid curry roux
  • 3 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 3 shiitake mushrooms
  • 1/2 bell pepper
  • A handful of garlic cloves (sliced)
  • A bit of green onion (julienned)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Pour 1 can (approx. 300ml) of cola into a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Simmer until the cola is reduced by about half. This concentrates the sweetness and flavor, creating a richer sauce base.

Step 2

Now, let’s prepare the vegetables for the sauce. Slice the garlic cloves thinly. Cut the shiitake mushrooms and bell pepper into bite-sized pieces. Julienne the green onion.

Step 3

Score the sausages by making diagonal cuts across the top and bottom. This helps the sauce penetrate deeply and makes the sausages look more appealing as they cook.

Step 4

Once the cola has reduced by half, add all the sauce ingredients (1 cube of curry roux, 3 Tbsp ketchup, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, the sliced shiitake mushrooms, bell pepper, and sliced garlic). Reduce the heat to low, and stir continuously while the vegetables soften and the sauce thickens, ensuring the curry is well dissolved and smooth.

Step 5

Finally, heat a little oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the scored sausages until golden brown on all sides. Arrange the cooked sausages on a plate and generously pour the warm curry sauce over them. For an extra touch, garnish with the julienned green onion and fresh parsley. Your delicious Currywurst is ready to be enjoyed with a cold beer!
