Ingredients

  • 5 Sausages
  • 1/3 Onion
  • 1 Leek (white part)
  • 1 cup Water (approx. 200ml)
  • Pinch of Parsley Flakes (for garnish)
  • 1 knob of Butter (approx. 10g)

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp Ketchup
  • 1/2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Curry Powder
  • 1/2 Tbsp Oligodang (or honey)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, score the sausages about 4-5 times shallowly with a knife. This helps prevent the juices from escaping while cooking and allows the sauce to penetrate better. Finely dice or thinly slice the onion. Chop the leek, focusing on the white parts.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, let’s prepare the curry sauce. In a clean bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of ketchup, 1/2 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons of curry powder, and 1/2 tablespoon of oligodang (or honey). Mix well until there are no lumps. You can adjust the sweetness to your preference.

Step 2

Step 3

Next, it’s time to grill the sausages. Lightly grease a frying pan with oil and heat over medium heat. Add the scored sausages and cook, turning them occasionally, until they are golden brown and look appetizing. Avoid using high heat to keep the sausages juicy.

Step 3

Step 4

While the sausages are grilling, prepare another frying pan. Melt 1 knob of butter in the pan over medium-low heat. Add the diced onion and chopped leek, and sauté until they become translucent and fragrant. The onions will release their sweetness as they cook.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the onions and leeks are nicely sautéed, add the prepared curry sauce and 1 cup of water to the pan. Stir everything together. Reduce the heat to medium and let it simmer until it thickens slightly, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. If the sauce is too thin, continue simmering for a few more minutes to achieve your desired consistency.

Step 5

Step 6

Arrange the grilled sausages nicely on a serving plate. Generously ladle the warm curry sauce over the sausages. Finally, sprinkle a pinch of parsley flakes over the top for a beautiful presentation. Your homemade German-style Currywurst is ready! Enjoy it while it’s hot for the best flavor.
