Main Ingredients
- Bean Sprouts 200g (1 bag)
Seasoning
- Minced Garlic 1/2 Tbsp
- Salt 1 + 1/2 tsp (adjust to taste)
- Sesame Seeds 1/2 Tbsp
- Sesame Oil 1/3 Tbsp
- Soup Soy Sauce (Guk-ganjang) 1 tsp (for added umami, optional)
- Minced Garlic 1/2 Tbsp
- Salt 1 + 1/2 tsp (adjust to taste)
- Sesame Seeds 1/2 Tbsp
- Sesame Oil 1/3 Tbsp
- Soup Soy Sauce (Guk-ganjang) 1 tsp (for added umami, optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Rinse the fresh bean sprouts thoroughly under running water several times. You can trim off any muddy root ends if you prefer, but it’s fine to leave them on. Place the washed bean sprouts in a pot, add about 1/2 cup of water (using a paper cup as a measure) and 1 teaspoon of salt. Cover the pot tightly and steam over medium heat for 3-5 minutes. It’s crucial to maintain the crispiness of the bean sprouts, so be careful not to overcook them. When you open the lid, you’ll see white steam rising, and the sprouts should be tender yet still firm.
Step 2
Once the bean sprouts are cooked, drain them lightly in a colander and transfer them to a large bowl. Add the minced garlic (1/2 Tbsp), sesame seeds (1/2 Tbsp), the remaining 1/2 tsp of salt, sesame oil (1/3 Tbsp), and soup soy sauce (1 tsp) for an extra layer of umami. Now, gently mix them with your hands. The key is to toss them lightly, as if you’re mixing a salad, so you don’t mash the bean sprouts. Ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed while preserving their delightful crunch.
Step 3
Your crispy and refreshing white seasoned bean sprouts are ready! They are perfect served over a bowl of warm rice or as a delightful side dish with any Korean stew. Enjoy the natural nutty flavor of the bean sprouts enhanced by the clean, simple seasoning.
