Crispy & Sweet! Super Easy Bread Rusks
Making Delicious Bread Rusks from Leftover Bread
Tired of eating leftover bread only as sandwiches? Transform it into crispy and sweet ‘Bread Rusks’! They pair wonderfully with milk, creating a delightful snack that both kids and adults will adore. The sweet aroma and crunchy texture of freshly baked rusks are truly irresistible. If you’re a bread lover, you must give this a try!
Ingredients- 7 slices of bread
- 3-4 Tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 slices of butter (approx. 40g)
- 1 egg (optional, can be omitted)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
If you have leftover bread in your fridge or pantry, don’t let it go to waste! Turn it into delicious ‘Bread Rusks’. About 7 slices are enough to make a wonderful snack.
Step 2
Cut the bread into bite-sized pieces. Cutting them lengthwise into 4 strips, about 2-3 cm wide, makes them easy to hold and eat after baking.
Step 3
Place 4 slices of butter in the microwave and heat for about 30 seconds to 1 minute until melted. Heat until the butter is fully liquefied.
Step 4
With the sliced bread and melted butter ready, you’re already halfway done with making the rusks! Isn’t it incredibly simple?
Step 5
Generously brush the melted butter onto all sides of the bread slices. The butter helps the sugar stick, so don’t worry about making it perfectly even. (Using a silicone brush makes this step convenient!)
Step 6
If you have children, making these together can be a fun activity! With their help, you can finish the process more quickly and enjoyably.
Step 7
Line a tray or a large plate with parchment paper or plastic wrap, and sprinkle about 3-4 tablespoons of sugar over it. You can adjust the amount of sugar according to your preference.
Step 8
Evenly coat the buttered bread slices with the sugar. If you add too much sugar, they might be a bit too sweet, so I recommend using a generous amount if kids will be eating them, and slightly less for adult palates.
Step 9
Arrange the sugar-coated bread slices on a baking sheet, ready for the oven.
Step 10
Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) for about 10 to 11 minutes. Keep an eye on the bread’s color and adjust the baking time as needed.
Step 11
Voila! Your perfectly golden-brown Bread Rusks are ready. They have a lovely sheen from the butter and a sweet aroma from the sugar coating. They are delicious to eat warm, or you can let them cool completely and store them in an airtight container to enjoy their crispiness for days to come.
