Whip up a crispy, sweet snack from leftover bread! This recipe features the perfect combination of sugar and coconut oil for delicious bread rusks.

Ingredients

  • 5 slices of bread (adjust quantity as needed)
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar (or white sugar, adjust sweetness to taste)
  • Coconut oil (or melted butter) as needed

Cooking Instructions

First, prepare your bread slices. I’m using 5 slices, and I’ve cut them lengthwise into 5 equal pieces. You can remove the crusts if you prefer, but leaving them on adds to the delightful crispiness.

Place the cut bread pieces into a resealable plastic bag. This makes it easy to coat them evenly with the seasonings and minimizes cleanup afterward.

Now, add 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar to the bag to bring in the sweetness. You can use white sugar instead, and feel free to adjust the amount to your liking. Shake the bag well to ensure the sugar is evenly distributed on the bread pieces.

Once the sugar is somewhat mixed in, pour in the coconut oil to add flavor and richness. If you don’t have coconut oil, melted butter works wonderfully as a substitute. Instead of brushing it on individually, simply pour it over the bread. Then, shake the bag again to mix. It doesn’t have to be perfectly coated at this stage.

Here’s how the bread looks after being mixed with the sugar and coconut oil. They are now ready to transform into delicious rusks!

Arrange the prepared bread slices in a single layer in your air fryer basket, making sure they don’t overlap. Air fry at 180°C (350°F) for 6 minutes. After 6 minutes, flip the bread slices over and air fry for another 6 minutes. This is how you easily make bread rusks!
