Mandu Gangjeong Ingredients
  • 8 frozen dumplings
  • Generous amount of cooking oil (for frying dumplings)
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • A pinch of toasted sesame seeds

Sweet & Spicy Sauce
  • 1.5 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1.5 Tbsp oligodang (corn syrup) (adjust sweetness)
  • 1 Tbsp mirin (rice wine)
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • A pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thaw the frozen dumplings. You can let them sit at room temperature or briefly soak them in cold water. Be careful not to thaw them for too long, as this can cause the dumpling wrappers to tear.

Step 2

Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Once the oil is warm, carefully add the thawed dumplings. Fry them until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides, turning them occasionally. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent the dumplings from burning.

Step 3

While the dumplings are frying, let’s prepare the delicious sauce. In a small bowl, combine 1.5 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp ketchup, 1.5 Tbsp oligodang, 1 Tbsp mirin, 2 Tbsp water, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, and a pinch of black pepper. Whisk everything together until well combined and smooth. Oligodang adds a nice sheen, but you can substitute it with sugar if preferred.

Step 4

Pour the prepared sauce into a lightly preheated dry pan over low heat. Stir constantly to prevent it from sticking and simmer gently until the sauce slightly thickens. Next, add the fried crispy dumplings to the pan and toss them quickly to coat evenly with the sauce. Once coated, turn off the heat. Finally, stir in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil and a pinch of toasted sesame seeds. Your delicious Mandu Gangjeong is now ready!

Step 5

This recipe has a higher proportion of gochujang, making it ideal for adults. If you’re making it for children, consider increasing the ketchup ratio and reducing the gochujang to make it less spicy. They’ll love it even with a little spice!

Step 6

If you’re looking for a simple yet special snack recipe for the weekend, we highly recommend this sweet and spicy Mandu Gangjeong. It’s a satisfying treat and also pairs wonderfully with a cold drink!
