Hello everyone! Today, we’re making ‘Sweet Potato Sticks’ that are wonderfully crispy and perfect for ASMR enjoyment, using the beloved winter vegetable, sweet potato. They make a fantastic, nutritious snack for children, so let’s get started together!

First, wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly. Peel them and then slice them into stick shapes, about your desired size for easy eating. Slicing them thicker will result in a softer interior, while thinner slices will yield extra crispiness. Place the sliced sweet potatoes in a bowl and soak them in cold water for about 10 minutes to remove excess starch. Removing the starch is key to achieving a crispier texture without frying.

Drain the sweet potato sticks from the starchy water and pat them completely dry using paper towels or a clean kitchen cloth. If moisture remains, the seasoning won’t adhere well, and the sticks might become soggy. This step is crucial for achieving that perfect crisp!

Add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil to the dried sweet potato sticks and toss to coat them evenly. Coating with oil first helps prevent the oligosaccharide from sticking too much later and gives the sticks a lovely sheen.

Next, add 1 tablespoon of oligosaccharide and gently mix with your hands until well combined. The trick is to gently toss the sticks so the oligosaccharide coats them uniformly. You’ll start to notice a sweet aroma emanating from them.

Now, arrange the seasoned sweet potato sticks in a single layer in your air fryer basket, making sure they don’t overlap. Air fry at 180℃ (350℉) for 10 minutes. About halfway through (around the 5-minute mark), carefully pull out the basket and flip the sweet potato sticks. This ensures they cook evenly and turn golden brown on all sides.

Once done, remove the sweet potato sticks from the air fryer and spread them out on a wide plate or tray to cool slightly. They might feel a bit soft while still hot, but as they cool down to room temperature, they will naturally firm up and become wonderfully crisp. This is when the satisfying ASMR crunch will begin!

Once they have completely cooled to room temperature and the warmth has dissipated, you’ll have perfectly delicious sweet potato sticks – crispy on the outside and delightfully sweet on the inside!
