Crispy & Sweet Nutella Twists
Super Easy Weekend Snack: How to Make Nutella Twists
Introducing a delightful treat that’s crispy on the outside and lusciously sweet on the inside, using everyone’s favorite ‘devil’s jam’ – Nutella! This recipe is incredibly appealing because even cooking beginners can whip it up with ease. You’ll be so engrossed in making and enjoying them, you might not want to stop! (Tip: They are so addictive, we recommend making them in moderation! My husband and I devoured a batch of 4 servings in no time.)
Essential Ingredients- 2 sheets frozen puff pastry (store-bought)
- Nutella spread (adjust to your preference)
- Sliced almonds or crushed almonds (prepare generously)
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons milk (or soy milk)
- 4 tablespoons powdered sugar (for dusting)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thaw one sheet of puff pastry. It’s convenient to work on a lightly floured surface or a sheet of parchment paper.
Step 2
Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet. Then, using a spoon or spatula, spread a generous, even layer of Nutella across the entire surface of the pastry. Spreading all the way to the edges ensures a consistent flavor in every bite.
Step 3
Sprinkle your prepared sliced or crushed almonds evenly over the Nutella spread. The delightful crunch of almonds adds to the charm of your Nutella twists.
Step 4
Take the second sheet of puff pastry and carefully place it on top of the Nutella-and-almond-covered sheet. Gently press the edges to help the two pastry layers adhere.
Step 5
Now, using a pizza cutter or a knife, cut the layered pastry into long strips, about 1.5 to 2 cm wide. Once cut, gently hold the top and bottom ends of each strip and twist them to create the signature twist shape. Be careful not to twist too tightly, as this could cause the Nutella to leak out.
Step 6
In a small bowl, crack the egg and whisk it with 2 teaspoons of milk or soy milk to create an egg wash. Using a pastry brush, gently brush this egg wash over the Nutella twists. The egg wash will help them achieve a golden-brown color and a wonderfully crispy texture.
Step 7
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for approximately 15 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed up and golden brown. Once removed from the oven and slightly cooled, dust generously with powdered sugar through a sieve for a beautifully sweet and attractive finish.
