Essential Ingredients- 2 ripe bananas
- 6 sheets of wonton wrappers
- Vegetable oil, for frying (generous amount)
- 3 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 2 Tbsp corn syrup (or honey)
- A pinch of black sesame seeds (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, select bananas that are ripe but not overly mushy. Peel the bananas and cut them into approximately 3 equal pieces each. Avoid cutting them too thinly, as they might break during frying. Aim for a consistent thickness for even cooking.
Step 2
In a small bowl, whisk the egg to create an egg wash. Lay out a wonton wrapper flat. Brush a thin layer of the egg wash over the wrapper. Place a banana piece onto the wrapper and carefully roll it up, enclosing the banana completely. Seal the edge with a little more egg wash to ensure it stays shut during frying.
Step 3
Heat a generous amount of vegetable oil in a deep pan or wok over medium heat. The oil is ready when a wooden chopstick inserted into it produces steady bubbles. Carefully place the wrapped bananas into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden brown and wonderfully crispy on all sides. Once fried, remove the banana fritters and place them on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.
Step 4
Now, let’s prepare the delicious glaze for our crispy fritters. In a clean pan, add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of corn syrup. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture forms a smooth syrup. Be careful not to burn the syrup.
Step 5
Once the syrup is ready, add the fried banana fritters to the pan. Toss them quickly to coat each fritter evenly with the warm syrup. Sprinkle with black sesame seeds for an extra touch of flavor and visual appeal. Your delicious, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside banana fritters are now ready! Serve immediately while warm for the best experience.
