Main Ingredients- 1/4 fresh pineapple
- Tempura flour, as needed
- Panko breadcrumbs, as needed
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Cold water, as needed
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the fresh pineapple thoroughly under cool running water. Then, trim off the tough ends. Cut the pineapple into 4 wedges, then cut each wedge in half to create 8 large pieces.

Step 2
Carefully remove the hard, fibrous core from the center of each pineapple piece, as it can impart a slightly bitter taste. Next, cut the pineapple into bite-sized pieces or your desired size for frying. Pat the cut pineapple pieces lightly with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

Step 3
In a bowl, combine the tempura flour. Gradually add cold water while whisking to create a smooth batter, ensuring there are no lumps. The batter should be thick enough to coat the pineapple well, but not too thick or thin. Once the batter is ready, add the cut pineapple pieces and toss gently to coat each piece evenly with the tempura batter.

Step 4
Next, take the batter-coated pineapple pieces and roll them in panko breadcrumbs, ensuring they are fully covered. Gently press the breadcrumbs onto the pineapple to help them adhere. A thorough coating of breadcrumbs will result in an extra crispy texture after frying.

Step 5
Now it’s time to fry! Pour a generous amount of vegetable oil into a deep frying pan or pot and heat it over medium heat. To test if the oil is hot enough, drop a small piece of breadcrumb into it; it should sizzle and float to the surface immediately. Carefully place the breadcrumb-coated pineapple pieces into the hot oil. Fry them, turning them occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning and ensure even cooking. Once golden and crisp, remove the fried pineapple from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Enjoy them while they are warm and delicious!
