Crispy & Sweet Air Fryer Bread Popcorn
Quick & Delicious Bread Popcorn Recipe!
Make delightful popcorn using simple bread and sugar! This recipe creates a wonderfully sweet and salty snack that’s perfect for any occasion.
Main Ingredients- 3 slices of bread (thick or pastry bread recommended)
- Parchment paper (for air fryer)
- Air fryer
For the Sweetness (Caramel Syrup)- 3 Tbsp sugar (approx. 30g)
- 3 Tbsp water (approx. 30ml)
- 3 Tbsp sugar (approx. 30g)
- 3 Tbsp water (approx. 30ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your bread. Cut 3 slices of bread into bite-sized cubes, about 2cm in size. This size is perfect for snacking and for frying evenly. Avoid cutting them too small, as they might crumble easily.
Step 2
Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper. This makes cleanup much easier and prevents the bread cubes from sticking. Arrange the cut bread pieces in a single layer on the parchment paper, ensuring they don’t overlap.
Step 3
Now it’s time to preheat the air fryer! Set your air fryer to 200°C (390°F) and run it for about 3 minutes. This step lightly dries out the surface of the bread, which will help it become extra crispy.
Step 4
After 3 minutes, carefully remove the bread from the air fryer. Use a spatula or chopsticks to toss the bread cubes around, ensuring they are evenly exposed to the heat. Return them to the air fryer and cook for another 2 minutes at 200°C (390°F) until they start to turn golden brown.
Step 5
While the bread is toasting, let’s make our delicious caramel syrup! In a sturdy pan, combine 3 tablespoons of sugar and 3 tablespoons of water. Place the pan over medium heat. Crucially, do NOT stir the mixture as it heats up! Stirring can cause the sugar to crystallize and harden. Instead, gently swirl the pan as the sugar melts.
Step 6
Once the sugar syrup begins to boil and turns a nice amber color, carefully add 1 tablespoon of butter. Once the butter is fully melted, reduce the heat to very low. Slowly and carefully pour in 5 tablespoons of milk. Be cautious as the hot syrup may splatter.
Step 7
As the caramel syrup thickens slightly, add your pre-toasted bread popcorn to the pan. Over low heat, quickly toss and coat the bread pieces evenly with the syrup. Work swiftly to ensure each piece gets a good coating without the bread becoming soggy. Mix until well combined.
Step 8
Your ‘Bread Popcorn’ is ready! This delightful snack offers a perfect balance of sweetness and crispiness. It’s delicious enjoyed warm, but letting it cool slightly will enhance its crispy texture even further. Enjoy this fun and easy treat!
