Crispy Stir-Fried Radish Greens
How to Make Delicious Stir-Fried Radish (Perfect for Baby Food too!)
Summer radishes tend to be less sweet and slightly spicier than winter ones, making them excellent for stir-fries and braised dishes! Use a whole radish to create this wonderful stir-fried radish side dish that’s sure to become a favorite with your meals. (Tablespoon refers to a standard Korean rice spoon)
Stir-Fried Radish Ingredients- 295g radish
- 100ml water
- 16g green onion
- 1.5 Tbsp perilla oil
- 0.6 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide
- 0.7 Tbsp salted shrimp
- 2-3 pinches of salt
- Sesame seeds, for sprinkling
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, peel the radish using a peeler. Cut it in half and then slice it into attractive half-moon shapes.
Step 2
Next, julienne the half-moon shaped radish slices into approximately 3mm thick strips. Uniform thickness ensures even cooking.
Step 3
Finely chop the 16g of green onion. Measure out the 0.6 Tbsp of minced garlic. (Alternatively, you can use chopped scallions cut into 1cm pieces.)
Step 4
Now, add all the julienned radish to a pan. Drizzle with 1.5 Tbsp of perilla oil. Turn the heat to medium and begin stir-frying.
Step 5
Gently toss and stir-fry for about 1 minute, allowing the nutty aroma and flavor of the perilla oil to infuse the radish. Be careful not to burn it!
Step 6
Reduce the heat slightly and add 0.7 Tbsp of salted shrimp for a savory umami boost. If you don’t have salted shrimp, you can substitute with fish sauce or Korean soup soy sauce.
Step 7
Add 1 Tbsp of oligosaccharide to enhance the radish’s natural sweetness. Stir well to combine.
Step 8
Pour in 100ml of water and stir again to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed.
Step 9
Turn the heat up to high and bring the mixture to a boil. Once it starts bubbling vigorously, reduce the heat to medium. Cover the pan and let it cook for about 5 minutes until the radish is tender.
Step 10
After 5 minutes, remove the lid and check if the radish is cooked. It should be tender when pierced with a chopstick or have a tender yet slightly crisp texture when bitten.
Step 11
Once the radish is sufficiently cooked, taste it and add 2-3 pinches of salt if needed to adjust the seasoning. If the salted shrimp provided enough flavor, you can skip this step.
Step 12
Finally, add the 0.6 Tbsp of minced garlic and the prepared chopped green onions. Stir-fry briefly until the garlic is fragrant and cooked. Turn off the heat once the garlic is done.
Step 13
Sprinkle generously with sesame seeds for a final touch. Your delicious stir-fried radish is ready! It’s a perfect side dish for any meal and also suitable for baby food.
