Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare all ingredients. Do not thaw the frozen dumplings before cooking; use them directly from the freezer. Wash the vegetables thoroughly.
Step 2
Thinly slice the garlic to release its aroma. Dice the onion and bell pepper into small, bite-sized pieces, similar in size to the dumplings or slightly smaller. Cutting them too large may prevent the sauce from coating them evenly.
Step 3
Make the soy sauce sweet and sour sauce. In a bowl, combine all sauce ingredients except for the chili oil and toasted sesame seeds: soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, cooking wine, corn syrup, oyster sauce, sesame oil, lemon juice, and water. Stir well until the sugar is dissolved. You can prepare this sauce ahead of time.
Step 4
Fry the frozen dumplings until crispy. Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan or wok over medium heat. Add the dumplings and fry until golden brown and crispy. Flip them occasionally to ensure even cooking and prevent burning. Once fried, place the dumplings on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Step 5
Prepare to stir-fry the sauce. Temporarily place the fried dumplings on a plate.
Step 6
Add 1 tablespoon of chili oil to the pan and sauté the sliced garlic and diced onion over medium-low heat until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Step 7
Once the onion begins to turn translucent, pour in the prepared soy sauce sweet and sour sauce. Increase the heat slightly and bring the sauce to a simmer.
Step 8
When the sauce starts to bubble, add the diced bell peppers and stir-fry briefly. Avoid overcooking the bell peppers to maintain their crisp texture.
Step 9
Once the sauce comes to a gentle boil and the ingredients are well combined, turn off the heat. If the sauce is too thin, you can simmer it a bit longer, but remember it will thicken slightly when poured over the dumplings. It’s best to turn off the heat when it seems a little thinner than desired.
Step 10
Arrange the crispy fried dumplings on a serving plate. Generously ladle the warm soy sauce sweet and sour sauce over the dumplings. Garnish with a pinch of toasted sesame seeds to finish. Enjoy your homemade Chinese-style soy sauce sweet and sour mandu right away for the best taste!
