  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 5 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Ingredients

  • Several sheets of rice paper (prepare as much as you’d like to eat)
  • Plenty of cooking oil (enough to submerge the rice paper)
  • Sweet chili sauce (for dipping)
  • 2 Tbsp curry powder
  • 2 Tbsp sugar

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Today, we’re going to make truly amazing and unique ‘Rice Paper Fries’. First, gather all the ingredients needed for this recipe!

Step 1

Step 2

Alright, let’s start cooking! First, if you have any leftover rice paper at home, prepare a generous amount, as much as you’d like to enjoy. Any quantity is fine!

Step 2

Step 3

Next, use kitchen scissors to cut the rice paper into bite-sized pieces. It’s common to cut each sheet into 4 pieces, and I’ve cut mine into triangles. You can also cut them into squares or any other shape you prefer. Regardless of the shape, they will have a fun texture when fried.

Step 3

Step 4

Pour a generous amount of cooking oil into a deep frying pan or pot, enough to fully submerge the rice paper. Turn the heat to medium. Be careful, as high heat can easily burn the rice paper.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the oil is heated to the right temperature, carefully add the cut rice paper pieces one by one. Now begins the most fascinating part: frying them until they are golden brown and crispy!

Step 5

Step 6

As soon as the rice paper hits the hot oil, it magically begins to puff up in about 2 seconds. It transforms in the blink of an eye!

Step 6

Step 7

Doesn’t the fried rice paper look like a crumpled tissue? This puffed-up appearance is truly unique and fun.

Step 7

Step 8

To think that this thin, flat spring roll wrapper can transform into such a puffy, three-dimensional shape! It’s truly fascinating and amusing to watch.

Step 8

Step 9

Once fried, drain the rice paper fries on a wire rack to remove excess oil. Now it’s time to enjoy them with delicious dipping sauces. Dip them in sweet chili sauce, or coat them with a mixture of curry powder and sugar (1:1 ratio). I’m already excited to taste them!

Step 9

Step 10

Arranging the finished fries on a plate creates a wonderfully strange and appetizing visual. Alternatively, you can place the fried rice paper and the curry powder seasoning into a large bag, shake it well, and coat them evenly. This method is also a lot of fun!

Step 10

Step 11

Their appearance is a bit like white kitchen paper, isn’t it? Haha. Anyway, let’s taste these super simple, instantly made rice paper fries!

Step 11

Step 12

First, dipping them into the curry powder and sugar mixture, they taste familiar yet captivating, much like dipping raw ramen noodles into their seasoning packet. The salty and sweet flavors are quite appetizing.

Step 12

Step 13

Now, let’s try dipping them in sweet chili sauce. Wow! This flavor is remarkably similar to the ‘Al Saewoop’ (shrimp crackers) sold commercially! It’s astonishingly close. The texture is incredibly crispy, and there’s absolutely no greasiness. They are a great alternative to chips when you have a craving, and they pair exceptionally well with beer – perhaps even better than any other snack! This is truly a unique and special snack, so please give it a try. Highly recommended!
