Main Ingredients
  • Shredded Radish 205g
  • Scallion 11g

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash the radish thoroughly and peel off the skin. Slice it into half-moon shapes about 2-3mm thick, then cut these into julienne strips of the same thickness. This method ensures a wonderfully crunchy texture.

Step 2

Finely chop the scallion. Measure out 0.3 Tbsp of minced garlic. (This is about a small teaspoon).

Step 3

In a large bowl, combine the shredded radish, minced garlic, and chopped scallions.

Step 4

Now, let’s season it. Add 0.5 tsp of salt to season the radish. (This is about a small teaspoon).

Step 5

Add 2 tsp of brown sugar for a touch of sweetness. (This is about a small teaspoon).

Step 6

Next, add 1.5 Tbsp of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick and vibrant color. (This is about a large tablespoon).

Step 7

Finally, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for a nutty aroma and rich flavor. (This is about a large tablespoon).

Step 8

Put on disposable gloves and gently toss the ingredients together. Mix well by gently squeezing and folding the radish strips to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed and the red pepper flakes coat everything beautifully.

Step 9

Since this recipe doesn’t involve salting the radish beforehand, it’s helpful to gently press down on the radish strips as you mix. This helps to soften the radish slightly and allows the seasoning to penetrate better, resulting in a more tender salad.

Step 10

Taste the salad. If it feels a bit bland, add about 0.4 tsp of fish sauce (or soy sauce) for an extra boost of umami. Gently mix again after adding the fish sauce.

Step 11

Finish by sprinkling a generous amount of toasted sesame seeds and giving it one last gentle mix. Your delicious and crunchy radish salad is ready! It’s great to eat right away, or you can chill it in the refrigerator for a short while for an even better flavor.
