During a trip to Busan, I visited Chinatown and had pan-fried dumplings served with a cucumber and garlic sauce. It was incredibly delicious when used as a dipping sauce for the dumplings! Inspired by this, I decided to recreate this garlic pan-fried dumpling recipe at home. The refreshing sauce perfectly cuts through the richness of the fried dumplings, making for a delightful culinary experience.

  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Deep-fry
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 5 Pan-fried dumplings
  • 1/4 Onion

Refreshing Garlic Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp Vinegar
  • 0.5 Tbsp Sugar
  • 0.8 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Water
  • 1.5 tsp Minced Garlic

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, peel the onion and thinly slice it into slivers. Slicing them thinly will result in a more tender texture.

Step 1

Step 2

Place the sliced onions in a bowl of cold water and soak them for about 15 minutes to remove any pungent or sharp flavors. This process helps to retain the onion’s sweetness while keeping them crisp.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a generous amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the dumplings on all sides until they are golden brown and wonderfully crispy. Be careful not to burn them, and cook until each side achieves a beautiful golden-brown hue.

Step 3

Step 4

While the dumplings are frying, let’s prepare the refreshing garlic sauce. In a small bowl, combine the minced garlic and sugar. Mix them well; the sugar will help to mellow the sharpness of the garlic.

Step 4

Step 5

Next, add the vinegar to the mixture and stir. The tangy acidity of the vinegar is key to balancing the richness of the fried dumplings.

Step 5

Step 6

Then, add the soy sauce. This will contribute a savory depth of flavor to the sauce.

Step 6

Step 7

Finally, add the water to achieve the desired consistency. It’s important for the sauce not to be too salty and to have a pleasant drizzling consistency.

Step 7

Step 8

Whisk all the ingredients together until thoroughly combined. Ensure that the sugar is completely dissolved for the best flavor and texture of the sauce.

Step 8

Step 9

Drain the soaked onions thoroughly using a sieve. It’s crucial to remove as much water as possible, as excess moisture can dilute the sauce and affect the overall taste.

Step 9

Step 10

Arrange the drained, crisp onions attractively on a serving plate.

Step 10

Step 11

Drizzle the prepared garlic sauce evenly over the onions. This will allow the onions to absorb the delicious sauce, creating a moist and flavorful topping.

Step 11

Step 12

Place the perfectly fried dumplings on top of the sauced onions, arranging them nicely for presentation.

Step 12

Step 13

For an extra touch of flavor, you can drizzle a little more garlic sauce over the dumplings. If you prefer to keep the dumplings extra crispy, dipping them into the sauce is also a wonderful option!

Step 13

Step 14

Enjoy this delightful combination of refreshing garlic sauce and crispy pan-fried dumplings. Your delicious dish is ready!
