  • Servings : 5 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 30 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 apples
  • 80g all-purpose flour (or cake flour)
  • 110g Digestive cookies (or other grain cookies)
  • 30g roasted peanuts
  • 25g sugar (for cookie coating)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • A little olive oil (for frying)
  • Caramel sauce (for serving), to taste

Whipped Cream Ingredients

  • 100g heavy cream
  • 8g sugar (for whipped cream)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare all the ingredients needed for making the apple fries. It’s a good idea to wash the apples thoroughly beforehand.

Step 1

Step 2

Place the Digestive cookies or other grain cookies you have into a blender and grind them into a very fine powder. You can choose the type of cookie based on your preference, but for a more subtle flavor, plain cookies are recommended. (Tip: I used chocolate Digestive cookies, which added a nice sweetness!)

Step 2

Step 3

Next, put the roasted peanuts into the blender and grind them as finely as possible, similar to the cookies. The nutty aroma of the peanuts will make the apple fries even more flavorful.

Step 3

Step 4

Combine the finely ground cookie crumbs and roasted peanut powder in a bowl and mix them well. This mixture will form the crispy coating for your fried apples.

Step 4

Step 5

Cut the washed apples into bite-sized pieces (about 1.5 cm thick), avoiding the core. Aim for about 8-10 pieces per apple. If they are too thin, they might break, and if they are too thick, they may take longer to cook through.

Step 5

Step 6

Carefully use a knife to scoop out and remove the core and seeds from the center of each apple slice. Removing the core cleanly makes them easier to eat.

Step 6

Step 7

Place the prepared apple slices into a wide bowl.

Step 7

Step 8

Sprinkle 80g of flour (all-purpose or cake flour) over the apple slices. Then, gently toss or lightly coat the apple slices with the flour to create a thin layer. This step helps the cookie coating adhere better later on.

Step 8

Step 9

In a separate bowl, crack 1-2 eggs and beat them with a fork or whisk until smooth to create an egg wash. (Tip: Adding a small amount of milk or water to the egg wash can create a thinner coating.)

Step 9

Step 10

Dip the flour-coated apple slices into the egg wash, ensuring they are fully coated. Then, generously coat them with the mixed cookie and peanut powder, pressing lightly with your hands to make sure the coating adheres well.

Step 10

Step 11

Preheat your air fryer to 190°C (375°F). Line the air fryer basket or tray with parchment paper and arrange the coated apple slices in a single layer, making sure they do not overlap. Overlapping can prevent even cooking.

Step 11

Step 12

Lightly drizzle olive oil over the apple slices. Air fry at 190°C (375°F) for 6 minutes. After 6 minutes, carefully flip the apple slices and cook for another 3-5 minutes. They are done when the outside is golden brown and crispy, and the inside is tender and soft. (Note: Cooking times and temperatures may vary slightly depending on your air fryer model, so check periodically and adjust as needed.)

Step 12

Step 13

In a small bowl, mix 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon with 25g of sugar (this sugar is for sprinkling over the apple fries, in addition to the cookie coating. It adds extra flavor when sprinkled with cinnamon).

Step 13

Step 14

Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture from step 12 over the warm, freshly fried apple fries, or gently roll them in it to coat. Adding cinnamon enhances the deliciousness.

Step 14

Step 15

Arrange the cooked apple fries attractively on a plate. Your basic apple fries are now ready!

Step 15

Step 16

Prepare the accompanying whipped cream. In a bowl, combine 100g of heavy cream and 8g of sugar. Whip with a hand mixer or whisk until firm peaks form (about 90-100% whipped). This will create a smooth and voluminous whipped cream.

Step 16

Step 17

Top the finished apple fries with a dollop of the prepared whipped cream and drizzle with sweet caramel sauce. The combination of warm, crispy apple fries, cool, creamy whipped cream, and sweet caramel sauce is simply divine! (Extra Tip: For an even more special treat, try serving with homemade caramel sauce.
