For the Potato Dough

  • 1 cup mashed boiled potatoes (approx. 200g)
  • 3 Tbsp finely chopped carrots
  • 3 Tbsp finely chopped onion
  • 3 Tbsp finely chopped garlic scapes
  • 3 Tbsp sweet corn kernels
  • 3 pinches salt
  • 2 pinches black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, steam the potatoes until tender. While the potatoes are still warm, mash them thoroughly using a fork or a potato masher until smooth. It’s important to mash them well to avoid any lumps.

Step 1

Step 2

Cut the frankfurter sausages in half if desired, or use them whole. Firmly insert a skewer into one end of each sausage.

Step 2

Step 3

In a bowl, combine the mashed potatoes with the finely chopped carrots, onion, garlic scapes, and sweet corn. Add the salt and pepper. Mix everything together well, kneading slightly, to form a cohesive dough.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, carefully wrap the potato dough around each skewered sausage, forming a hot dog shape. Ensure the dough is coated evenly and thickly to maintain its shape during frying.

Step 4

Step 5

Dip each potato-wrapped hot dog into the prepared egg wash, ensuring it’s fully coated. Then, generously coat the hot dogs with breadcrumbs, pressing gently so they adhere well. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy texture.

Step 5

Step 6

Heat a generous amount of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Carefully place the breadcrumb-coated hot dogs into the hot oil. Rotate them gently to ensure all sides are evenly golden brown and cooked through. Be careful not to fry at too high a heat, as this can burn the outside before the inside is cooked. Once perfectly golden, remove the hot dogs and place them on a wire rack or paper towels to drain any excess oil. Enjoy your delicious potato hot dogs!
