Main Ingredients- 1/2 block Firm Tofu (approx. 150-200g)
- 1/2 Red Onion (medium-sized)
Seasoning- 1/2 Tbsp Korean Soup Soy Sauce (Gukganjang)
- 1 Tbsp Regular Soy Sauce (Jin-ganjang)
- 1/2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 Tbsp Korean Soup Soy Sauce (Gukganjang)
- 1 Tbsp Regular Soy Sauce (Jin-ganjang)
- 1/2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces (e.g., squares or rectangles). Heat a pan over medium heat, add 1 Tbsp of perilla oil or cooking oil, and pan-fry the tofu until golden brown on all sides. The key is to achieve a crispy exterior while keeping the inside soft and tender. (Tip: Pat the tofu dry with paper towels before frying to ensure maximum crispiness!)
Step 2
Wash the red onion thoroughly, pat it dry, and then thinly slice it into shreds. If you find raw onions too pungent, you can soak the shredded onion in cold water for about 5 minutes and then drain it well to achieve a milder, crisper texture.
Step 3
In a small bowl, combine all the seasoning ingredients: 1/2 Tbsp Korean Soup Soy Sauce, 1 Tbsp Regular Soy Sauce, 1/2 Tbsp Gochugaru, 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil, and 1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds. Mix well to create the dressing. To maintain the onion’s crispness, you can prepare the dressing in advance while the tofu is frying.
Step 4
Gently pat the excess oil off the fried tofu with paper towels. Transferring the warm tofu to the bowl with the dressing will help it absorb the flavors better.
Step 5
Add the pan-fried tofu to the bowl containing the shredded red onion and the prepared dressing. Gently toss using a spatula or spoon, being careful not to mash the tofu. Ensure the tofu and onions are evenly coated with the seasoning.
Step 6
Transfer the well-mixed, delicious Onion and Tofu Salad to a serving dish, arranging it neatly. Sprinkle a little extra toasted sesame seeds on top for added aroma and flavor. Enjoy this delightful dish with a warm bowl of rice!
