Main Ingredients
  • 1kg Chicken (cleaned and prepared)
  • 10 whole garlic cloves

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Start with a 1kg chicken, thoroughly cleaned inside and out under running water. After washing, pat the chicken completely dry with paper towels or a clean cloth. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy exterior.

Step 2

Prepare 10 whole garlic cloves. These will roast alongside the chicken, adding a wonderful aroma and absorbing some of the chicken’s juices, making them tender and flavorful.

Step 3

Season the dried chicken with 1 tablespoon of herb salt. Rub it gently over the entire surface and into any crevices to ensure even flavor distribution. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes to allow the salt to penetrate the meat and remove any gamey odors.

Step 4

Place the seasoned chicken in a large resealable bag or bowl. Spray generously with cooking oil and then add 3 tablespoons of cornstarch. Seal the bag tightly and shake well, or toss gently in the bowl, ensuring the chicken is evenly coated with oil and cornstarch. This coating will help create a wonderfully crispy skin.

Step 5

Arrange the cornstarch-coated chicken and whole garlic cloves in the air fryer basket, ensuring they have some space between them for even cooking. Set the air fryer temperature to 180°C (350°F) and cook for 30 minutes. About halfway through, at the 15-minute mark, carefully open the air fryer to flip the chicken pieces and toss the garlic. This ensures even browning and cooking. Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer model and chicken size. After the initial 30 minutes, check for doneness. If needed, continue cooking for an additional 5-10 minutes. The chicken is done when the juices run clear when pierced with a fork.

Step 6

Keep an eye on the garlic; it can brown faster than the chicken. If the garlic starts to look too dark around the 20-minute mark, you can remove it from the air fryer to prevent burning, allowing the chicken to finish cooking perfectly.
