Main Ingredients

  • 5 fresh green peppers
  • 1 package of fish cakes (preferably with holes, or regular fish cakes)
  • A little cooking oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the fresh green peppers. Use 5 medium-sized green peppers, wash them thoroughly, and pat them dry. Fish cakes with pre-made holes are ideal for stuffing, but regular fish cakes work perfectly fine too. (If you don’t have fish cakes with holes, you can use two packages of store-bought fish cakes and select two with holes, or simply cut regular fish cakes into appropriate sizes.)

Step 1

Step 2

Carefully stuff the prepared green peppers into the holes of the fish cakes. Gently press them in so they fill the space completely. This will help prevent them from falling out during cooking and maintain a nice presentation.

Step 2

Step 3

Cut the stuffed fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 cm in length. You’ll see the green pepper snugly fitted inside the fish cake when you look at the cut surface.

Step 3

Step 4

Prepare an additional 3 green peppers and more fish cakes. Stuff and cut them in the same manner. Preparing about 8 pieces in total will yield a generous portion of this delicious side dish.

Step 4

Step 5

Heat a wide pan over medium heat and add a good amount of cooking oil. Add 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of corn syrup, and 1 tablespoon of cooking wine to create the sauce.

Step 5

Step 6

Let the soy sauce simmer for about 10-15 seconds without stirring, allowing it to caramelize slightly. This step enhances the rich, deep flavor of the soy sauce.

Step 6

Step 7

Now, add the prepared green pepper fish cakes to the pan and stir-fry. To preserve the crisp texture of the green peppers, stir-fry for only about 1-2 minutes. Don’t worry about the peppers falling out; they are well-secured within the fish cakes.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, sprinkle a pinch of black pepper and a generous amount of sesame seeds for added aroma and nutty flavor.

Step 8

Step 9

And there you have it – a simple yet incredibly tasty stir-fry of green peppers and fish cakes! While sometimes I add ingredients like onions, carrots, scallions, minced garlic, and sesame oil for a richer dish, today we focused on highlighting the fresh, natural taste of the green peppers for a cleaner flavor profile. This makes for a satisfying and delicious dinner side dish!
