Crispy & Easy Homemade Bread Rusks with Nuts
Nutty Rusks: Effortlessly Make Them From Bread Slices
An incredibly simple way to make nutty rusks using leftover bread. These are perfect for a quick snack or alongside your favorite beverage.
Ingredients- 4 slices of bread (slightly stale bread works best)
- 50g butter
- 1/2 cup mixed nuts (such as almonds, walnuts, pecans)
- 2 Tbsp brown sugar
- Pinch of salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the nuts. Gather your favorite nuts like almonds, walnuts, or pecans. In a food processor or blender, pulse the nuts a few times until they are coarsely chopped – you want some texture, not a fine powder. Mix the chopped nuts with 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and a tiny pinch of salt. Stir well to combine and set aside.
Step 2
Now, it’s time to melt the butter. Place 50g of butter in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it for about 30 seconds until it’s just melted and smooth. Be careful not to overheat it. Cut your bread slices into desired pieces (usually 2-3 per slice). Gently dip each bread piece into the melted butter, coating both sides lightly. Don’t let the bread soak for too long, or it will become soggy. A quick dip is all you need!
Step 3
Take the butter-coated bread slices and press them firmly into the nut and sugar mixture you prepared earlier. Make sure the nuts adhere well to the bread. Gently press down with your fingers to ensure a generous coating of nuts all over the surface. The more nuts, the tastier your rusks will be!
Step 4
If using an oven, preheat it to 180°C (350°F) and bake for about 15 minutes, or until the rusks are golden brown and crisp. If you don’t have an oven, heat a non-stick frying pan over low heat. Toast the rusks without any oil, turning them frequently to prevent burning, until they are golden and crunchy. Enjoy your homemade, delightfully crispy rusks!
