  • 2 slices butter (approx. 20g)
  • 3 Tbsp cooking oil (approx. 45ml)
  • A pinch of black sesame seeds
  • A handful of sliced almonds

Sweet Candied Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp cooking oil (approx. 30ml)
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar (approx. 15g)
  • 1.5 Tbsp corn syrup or oligodang (approx. 22ml)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Heat 3 Tbsp of cooking oil and 2 slices of butter in a wide pan over medium-low heat. Once the butter is completely melted, add the tteokguk rice cakes.

Gently stir the rice cakes with chopsticks or a spatula to prevent sticking, and pan-fry them until they are golden brown and slightly crispy on both sides. Achieving a lightly crispy exterior is key.

While the rice cakes are cooking, clear the pan or use a separate small pan. Add all the sauce ingredients: 2 Tbsp cooking oil, 1 Tbsp brown sugar, and 1.5 Tbsp corn syrup. Melt them slowly over low heat, stirring gently to prevent the sugar from burning.

Once the brown sugar has completely melted into a thick syrup consistency, add the golden-brown pan-fried rice cakes. Quickly toss and coat them thoroughly with the sauce. Stirring rapidly to ensure an even coating is crucial.
