A Fresh and Simple Spring Picnic Lunch Menu: Making Crispy Cabbage Sandwiches
This recipe features a cabbage sandwich with a delightful crispy texture and rich flavor that will tantalize your taste buds. It’s perfect for spring picnic lunches or a light brunch. (Based on the 23.04.03 recipe)
Sandwich Ingredients- 1/4 head of cabbage
- 2 imitation crab sticks
Sauce Ingredients- 2 Tbsp mayonnaise (using a regular spoon as measurement)
- 1.5 Tbsp mustard (using a regular spoon as measurement)
- 2 Tbsp mayonnaise (using a regular spoon as measurement)
- 1.5 Tbsp mustard (using a regular spoon as measurement)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the fresh cabbage thoroughly, then slice it as thinly and finely as possible. This step is crucial for achieving the crispy texture in your sandwich.
Step 2
Soak the shredded cabbage in cold water with a splash of vinegar for about 10 minutes. This process enhances the cabbage’s crispiness and helps remove any unwanted odors.
Step 3
Drain the cabbage completely after soaking in the vinegar water. It’s important to remove as much water as possible, as excess moisture can make the sandwich soggy. Once drained, shred or tear the imitation crab sticks and add them to the cabbage. Then, mix in 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise and 1.5 tablespoons of mustard (measured with a regular spoon). Stir everything together until well combined.
Step 4
Trim the crusts off the bread slices for your sandwich. You can also choose to leave the crusts on if you prefer!
Step 5
Spread about 0.5 tablespoon of mayonnaise thinly on one side of each bread slice, and then spread about 0.5 tablespoon of mustard on the other side. This ensures the bread absorbs the flavors nicely.
Step 6
Generously pile the prepared cabbage mixture onto one slice of bread, then place the other slice on top to form the sandwich. Make sure to enclose the filling well within the bread to prevent it from spilling out.
Step 7
To make the sandwich easier to handle and keep fresh, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap after closing the bread. This is especially helpful for picnics or when carrying it on the go.
Step 8
Here you have it – a super simple yet incredibly delicious cabbage sandwich! It was the perfect accompaniment with tea for lunch. You can also add ham or cheese along with the cabbage for a different flavor variation. Enjoy making it!
